IRTAM Updates

August 2026

The IRI-based Real-Time Assimilative Model (IRTAM) version NECTAR v0.2A_D3/1 is available through the CCMC Runs-on-Request and Instant Run Systems, providing users with global, data-driven specifications of the ionosphere.

IRTAM extends the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model by assimilating global ionosonde observations from the Global Ionospheric Radio Observatory (GIRO). By continuously adjusting the IRI model coefficients using observations, IRTAM provides updated estimates of key ionospheric parameters, including foF2 and hmF2, enabling it to capture short-term space weather variability beyond the climatological representation of IRI.
