CAMEL Updates

About

The Comprehensive Assessment of Models and Events using Library Tools (CAMEL) framework is an integrated and flexible framework allowing users to seamlessly compare space weather and space science model outputs with observational data sets. The interactive visualization and validation capabilities of the CAMEL Web App cover many scientific domains; new studies are continuously being added to the database and front-end services.

SWPC/GEM Challenge page added to CAMEL Ground Magnetic Perturbations study

As part of the validation efforts of ground magnetic perturbations models this page recreates the SWPC/GEM validation challenges of 2008 and 2011. These studies comprised data from six storm time periods across twelve magnetometer stations. The existing ground magnetic perturbations CAMEL page builds off this previous work in an effort to track the progress of models since this original validation challenge.

Ionospheric Ionization study added to CAMEL

The new study currently comprises foF2 and hmF2 parameters across over a dozen model configurations to better visualize the conditions in the layer of maximum ionospheric ionization F2. This study was suggested and supported by members of the Ionosphere Plasma Density ISWAT team.

Consistent with other CAMEL domain websites in development, the Ionospheric Ionization page includes both arithmetic skill scores and plotting sections for model comparison and there is ionosonde data from stations across the globe for model validation.
